Why are we switching from Turnitin to Copyleaks?
We are transitioning to Copyleaks to provide enhanced plagiarism detection capabilities, better AI content detection, and improved user experience. Copyleaks offers advanced technology that better serves our academic integrity needs while providing more comprehensive analysis tools.
When will the transition take place?
We’re currently running both Copyleaks and Turnitin simultaneously. Starting Winter 2026, we’ll consolidate Copyleaks as our sole plagiarism detection tool.
Will my existing Turnitin account data be transferred?
Unfortunately, plagiarism reports and historical data from Turnitin cannot be directly transferred to Copyleaks due to platform differences. We recommend downloading any important reports before the transition date. New submissions will need to be processed through Copyleaks.

How do I access Copyleaks?
Copyleaks is located within the content tool in SLATE.
Is Copyleaks similar to Turnitin in functionality?
Yes, Copyleaks provides similar core functionality including plagiarism detection, originality reports, and submission management. However, the interface and some features may differ. We’ll provide training materials to help with the transition.
What file formats does Copyleaks support?
Copyleaks supports various file formats including:
- txt, pdf, docx, doc, rtf, xml, pptx, ppt, odt, chm, epub, odp, ppsx, pages, xlsx, xls, csv, LaTeX
- URL formats: HTML, TXT(UTF8 encoded) files
- Code files are supported in: C#, Java, Python, HTML, XML, GO, C, C++, Javascript, Swift, Ruby, PHP, Perl, Scala
Does Copyleaks detect AI-generated content?
Yes, one of the key advantages of Copyleaks is its advanced AI content detection capabilities, which can identify text generated by ChatGPT, GPT-4, Bard, and other AI writing tools.
For Instructors
How do I set up assignments in Copyleaks?
Copyleaks provides an intuitive assignment creation interface. Training materials are available to guide you through the setup process.
Can I customize similarity thresholds?
Yes, Copyleaks allows you to set custom similarity thresholds and exclude certain sources (like quoted material, bibliography, or small matches) from the analysis.
How do I access and review student submissions?
Student submissions can be accessed through the Copyleaks dashboard, where you can view similarity reports, leave feedback, and manage grades. The interface is designed to streamline the review process.
Will I need to recreate all my assignments?
Yes, existing Turnitin assignments will need to be recreated in Copyleaks. We recommend planning this transition during a natural break in your course schedule when possible.
Technical Questions
What browsers are supported?
Copyleaks works with all major modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For the best experience, ensure your browser is updated to the latest version.
What about accessibility features?
Copyleaks is committed to accessibility and supports various assistive technologies. The platform complies with accessibility standards to ensure all users can effectively use the service.
Data and Privacy
How is my data protected in Copyleaks?
Copyleaks maintains strict data privacy and security standards, including encryption and secure data handling practices. Your submissions and personal information are protected according to applicable privacy regulations.
Will my submissions be added to a database?
By default, submissions to Copyleaks are added to the internal database for future reference checks. However, instructors have the option to turn off this database addition if they prefer not to store student work.
Can I delete my submissions?
Once your paper is submitted, it cannot be deleted.
